Munster’s Alan Quinlan has been cited to appear before an independent Disciplinary Committee following Saturday’s Heineken Cup semi-final.

The back row will appear before the committee following his side’s heavy defeat to rivals Leinster at Croke Park, in which he appeared to make illegal contact with the eye/eye area of opponent Leo Cullen.

Citing Commissioner for the match John Byett of England has recommended that the player face the hearing after his actions against the Leinster captain, with the Independent Disciplinary Committee set to be appointed as soon as practicable.

If found guilty the player’s hopes of touring with the British and Irish Lions, with whom he was a surprise selection, could be over, given that recent such incidents saw Northampton Saints pair Dylan Hartley and Neil Best receive lengthy bans.
