Paddy O'Prado finished a game third at the Kentucky Derby, two and a half lenghts behind Super Saver in the Run for the Roses.
Paddy O'Prado, owned mainly by the Crawford family in Iowa, and racing in their ancestral Donegal colors of green and gold was backed down to just 11/1 before the race making him one of the favorites.
He settled perfectly and was in good striking position entering the home stretch.
However Super Saver by then has stolen several lengths on the field and was impossible to run down.
Paddy O'Prado just failed to hang on for second as Ice Box came flying from last to grab the runner up slot on the line,
It was a wild ride for the Donegal racing syndicate all week in Louisville.
Paddy O'Prado was considered to have little chance until the weather turned foul and he showed he loved a wet track during his workouts. Suddenly he became one of the biggest talking horses of the week.
He certainly got that rain on Saturday with a record level of moisture falling.
Now he is likely to head for the Preakeness Stake where he will face Super Saver again.
