Niche Market won the Powers Whiskey Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse in County Meath on Easter Monday.

The 33-1 English horse , ridden by Harry Skelton and trained by Bob Buckler, took the lead after a fine leap over the second last hurdle and was able to hold off the challenge of Church Island to win the race.

Church Island had led most of the way but lost the lead at the penultimate fence. Due to an incident on the first circuit, the last fence had to be bypassed, and it was the momentum Niche Market gained from that great jump at the second last that took him home to victory.

50-1 chance A New Story came in third and Rare Bob, the 8-1 favorite, came in fourth.
