FERGUS Daly, who was the guiding force behind the Tyrone Junior A title win this season and manager for Down when they won the Junior A and Senior B titles in the last two years, has been appointed interim manager of the New York senior football team.
Daly replaces Paddy Kearney for the fixture against Galway on October 19 for the FBD Cup. It is extremely short notice to try and assemble a squad for that encounter, but certainly the talent that was on show over the last few weeks will give him cause for some hope to cause a shock or at least put some pride back in the colors after the defeat by Leitrim earlier in the year in the Connaught Championship.
Players of the caliber of Alan Foley, Mark Kelly, Dan Doona, Aiden Power, Kevin Smith, Paddy Smith, James Huvane, Declan Griffin, Niall Corbett, Adrian O'Connor, Fergal Shannon, Mike Higgins, Barry Quinn, Ronan Garvey, Alan O'Hara, Pat Mahoney, Nicky Dineen, Michael Grimes, Dennis McCarthy, Martin Hamill, Barry McElduff, Conor Hunter, Declan Garvey, John Kelly Sean Roche and Thomas McGovern should all be on the short list for inclusion, with six to eight training sessions available to get the squad ready.
