Light heavyweight Seanie Monaghan (15-0, 10 KOs) will return to action on October 24 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York in a contest scheduled for 10 rounds.

The Long Beach, Long Island native was last in action on August 2 when he dismantled George Armenta in three rounds to successfully defend his WBC Continental Americas belt. The man likely to face the Irish American on fight night is Daniel Adotey Allotey (14-2, 7 KOs).

Monaghan had been training for a different opponent who fought with an orthodox style, but that adversary fell through and Adotey Alloetey, who is from Ghana and a leftie, was drafted in.

"We weren't preparing for a southpaw and now we are switching up sparring partners," Monaghan told the Irish Voice over the weekend. "But there are four weeks to go and we will be prepared."

Monaghan is set to spar with 2012 Olympian Marcus Browne and rising amateur star Patrick Day to ready himself for the unorthodox style of his 27-year-old opponent.

Though his record looks impressive, Adotey Allotey, who has fought all but one of his fights in Ghana, has lost every time he encountered an opponent with a winning record. The most notable name on his resume is George Groves, the British super middleweight champion.  Groves defeated Adotey Allotey by fourth round TKO in March 2011.

"I am trying to find out more about the guy," added Monaghan. "I heard he was wild and sloppy against Groves and that Groves had a rough time with him for a while. He has a good record but every time he has fought someone good he has lost."

Monaghan said he also would be sparring with Tony Bellew when the Liverpudlian comes to New York next week.  Bellew is a serious contender in the 175-pound division and lost to WBO champion Nathan Cleverly in a title fight last year.  Though he is not a southpaw, Monaghan is looking forward to working with a fighter of the Englishman’s quality as he prepares for upcoming fights.

In other news, light welterweight Danny O'Connor (19-1, 7 KOs) notched up his third win in four months on Saturday night when he defeated Josh Sosa (10-4, 5 KOs) by third round stoppage at the Foxwoods Casinos in Connecticut. Referee Eddie Coton called a halt to proceedings in the third stanza to give O'Connor, who is managed by Ken Casey of the Dropkick Murphys, his 19th win as a professional.

Meanwhile, lightweight Jamie Kavanagh (11-0, 5 KOs) is back in training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.  The Dubliner, who was last in action on July 14 when he defeated Paul Velarde by unanimous decision, tweeted on Monday that he was sparring with former world champion Steve Forbes.

“Great sparring with @2lbforbes today! Showed me a few things. Looking #Slick sparring,” tweeted the 22-year-old.

In another recent Twitter update, the Freddie Roach-trained fighter said he would be back in action on November 3 in Los Angeles, but no opponent has been confirmed.

Finally, welterweight John O’Donnell (25-2, 10 KOs) has relocated to Canada, and he will have his first fight there on October 12 at the Bell Center in Montreal.  The 26-year-old, who is now trained by Ryan Grant, will fight Tomas Mendez (15-2, 9KOs) in a fight scheduled for eight rounds.
