Double major winner and larger-than-life golfer John Daly is delighted to be returning to Ireland for next week’s 3 Irish Open.

The hard-living long-driving Daly is relying on invitations to play regular golf these days, but the big man is still hugely popular and draws a crowd wherever he goes.

"It is always good to come back home – I’m really looking forward to The 3 Irish Open," said Daly ahead of next week’s tournament.

Chief Executive of 3, Robert Finnegan, is delighted to have another household name teeing off next week. “John Daly is held in great affection by Irish golfing fans ever since he first played in Ireland in 1995. John’s addition to the competitive field, along with the leading stars of Irish golf and the other strong international competitors, ensures four days of superb golf next week in Baltray."

Daly has always felt the affection of Irish fans, be it playing golf or in course development.

"I designed a golf course three years ago in Cork so I have been there many times and I love to go to Ireland because the people there have always welcomed  me.

"It feels a long time since I have been there though, last time was when I played Mount Julliet, and also The K Club the year The Ryder Cup was played there. It will be great to play The 3 Irish Open on a links course though because Ireland has some of the best links courses in the world and I love links golf.

"I love to go back to Ireland period. I know I have a lot of fans there and there are a lot of people there who want to see me playing and that makes me feel great, it feels like home every time I go to Ireland."
