HARPS and Gillbert's faced off last weekend for a very physical fight. Gilberts kept its winning streak alive with a 4 - 1 win over Harps.
Tina Cressent ran down a beautifully placed free kick by Aine O'Dwyer and put it in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Cressent repaid the favor by sending a cross to O'Dwyer who finished with the score for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Sue Hannon gathered a pass from Brittany Peters, squeezed through two defenders and scored with a near post shot that the keeper got a hand on. Harps scored on a penalty kick to make it 3-1.
Cressent earned a second goal on a Mary McEvoy corner that bounced in off a defender for a 4-1 Gillbert's victory. Harps felt the impact of only having 10 players on the field with no subs. However, the first half was a good match up with Marissa Bea, the Harps goalie, making some tremendous saves.
The second half was just as aggressive and Harps were able to score one, thanks to a penalty kick by Susie Malone.
In their fourth win this season, Ned Devine's beat Docs 2 with a score of 2-0. Goal scorers for Ned's were Angela Russo and Dani Crooker.
Tara Webber stood in at the position of goalie and had several great saves for Ned's. Ari Zindler, Margaret Fitzsimmons, Kaity Pennel and Stephanie Bush led the Ned's defense.
Even though they were short players, Jake's August United Fury played strong throughout the 2-0 win over the Tigers, with forward Lara Kiang joining Natalie Fevig and Abigail Claflin on the defensive line.
Forward Melissa Ryerson scored Jake's first goal. Jake's midfielders Amy Whiffen, Melissa Loranger and Teresa Belling also helped keep up the offense for Jake's through the end of the game. The Tigers felt their loss against Jake's after failing to capitalize on a breakaway opportunity in the first half and having a goal knocked in by one of their own defenders in the second half.
Megan Armstrong and Amy Wagner played strong games at defense, while Sara Vilagio and Sarah Ivy led the offense.
Velocity pulled away from Parlour in a competitive 4-3 win. At halftime, Parlour was up 3-1. Velocity scored three goals in the second half to win the game.
Velocity goal scorers were Anne Rocco and Nicole d'Orazio with two goals each. For Parlour, goals were scored by Julia Bradley-Cook, Jana Melo and Joan Madden.
