Rory McIlroy’s love affair with tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki is over according to reports in Ireland.

Various newspapers have highlighted the end of the relationship between the world’s number three golfer and the Danish star.

The pair have removed photos of each other from their Twitter profiles.

And friends have told the Irish Sun newspaper that the relationship is now over.

The paper says McIlroy has replaced a romantic Twitter profile photo of him and the 23-year-old Dane with a boring golf photo.

Wozniacki’s profile snap with McIlroy has also disappeared from her site.

A friend revealed: “They’ve been fighting like cats and dogs all year. It’s been on and off.

“A few weeks ago she rang Rory and told him it was over and told him to get over to Monaco to get all his stuff out of her place.

“The break’s been coming for a while.”

The break-up comes in a traumatic season that has seen McIlroy suffer on the course after his $250 million switch to equipment sponsor Nike.

Currently in action in the $10 million (€7.4m) FedEx Cup play-offs in The Barclays tournament just outside New York City, McIlroy is expected to comment on the split on Saturday.
