Eoin Morgan, a 24-year-old Dubliner, has been appointed Vice Captain of the England match against Sri Lanka, which is due to be played in Bristol on Sunday.

Although there are political as well as sporting considerations, Morgan has vowed he will take it in his stride.

The left-handed Dubliner played internationally for Ireland until 2009, and is about to become the first ever Irish man to captain the English team, according to a report in the Irish Independent.

Morgan switched to play for England in 2009 and told the Daily Mail this week he was 'chomping at the bit' after being picked for the vice-captaincy.

The Irish batsman previously told reporters: 'From the age of 13, I wanted to play cricket for England. I’ve never felt any shame in saying this is what I wanted to do.'
