The name first entered the top five list of girls’ names in 2021 and has been making a splash ever since.

 Éadbh is pronounced as ‘AY-va’ or the name Ava, and means to "live" or "to breathe," and is a beautiful choice as a girl’s name.

It’s also believed to be connected to the Biblical story of Adam and Eve.

In 2020, the name ranked number 372 on the CSO’s list and was reportedly only given to ten girls that year.

 Fast forward to 2024, and Éabha now ranks in second place after Sophie, which was given to 294 babies.

Rounding out the top five list were longtime favourites Grace, Emily and Fiadh.

 As for the boys, the most popular name for boys in 2024 was Jack.

The remaining top five boys’ names are Noah, Rian, Cillian and James, with the name Caleb also experiencing a strong jump in popularity.

In 2020, the name was No. 375 on the list, and it was only given to 10 girls that year.

Sophie topped the list for girls’ names in 2024, as it was given to 294 babies that year, followed by Éabha, Grace, Emily and Fiadh. For boys, the most popular name was Jack, which was given to 490 babies in 2024.
