The news comes with the release of the 2024 stats on baby names from the Office for National Statistics, the equivalent of the Central Statistics Office in the UK.

The latest report found that Muhammad was the top boy's name choice for 2024 in England and Wales for the second year running, with Olivia being the top girl's name for the third year in a row.

Amid the new figures, one Irish baby name made a surprising jump to be named the fastest rising boys' name on the list for 2024.

Rory, the anglicization of Ruairí or Ruaidhrí, was the fastest rising boy's name on the list.

It's the second year in a row that Rory has made the highest jump in the rankings.

The name, which also has Scottish connotations, means "Red King." The least popular boys' names given to five babies or fewer include Cuthbert, Crispin, Awesome, and Beckham.

And, for the girls, it's Orchid, Poem, Sicily and Everest.

News of Rory's success in the English and Welsh figures comes after it emerged that Fiadh is the fastest rising girl's name in Ireland in January.

Nameberry has also revealed that it has entered the top 1,000 names in England and Wales and is on the rise.
