Two young Irishman lost their lives in a car accident in Victoria.

Robbie Twomey, from Co Kerry and Adrian Freeman, from Tooreen in Co Mayo died when the Toyota Camry they were traveling in was involved in a collision with a Volvo on the Barwon Heads Road in Geeling.

Police are investigating the circumstances around the accident.

It is believed that the men died at the scene of the accident, and two other Irish nationals who were in the Camry were taken to hospital for treatment and later released.

The female driver of the Volvo is in hospital undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

Freeman was an intercounty hurler for Mayo and was part of the senior team during the 2009 season.

The local consular office of the Department of Foreign Affairs is providing assistance to the families of the deceased.
