British Labor Party MP and Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary Owen Smith had urged Prime Minister Theresa May to push for marriage equality in Northern Ireland. 

As talks to restore Northern Ireland's power-sharing government have stalled, one British politician thinks Theresa May should seize the moment to make gay marriage legal there. 

Northern Ireland is currently the only part of the UK where marriage equality is not written into law. Ireland passed its marriage equality bill by public referendum in 2015.
