A teacher in Scotland was arrested after she allegedly praised the IRA on social media.

Anne-Marie Clements, a 24-year-old teacher from Blantyre, Lanarkshire, who is said to have posted under her username x---annemarie, wrote: "Every day's a RA day."

The tweets discussing the Provisional IRA are said to have stunned parents at the St Mark’s Primary school in Barrhead, near Glasgow, where the teacher works, the Daily Record reports.

An investigation was launched and police arrested Clements. She was later released and is expected to come before the court in January.

Her Twitter account, which had over 3,300 followers, was locked to hide the tweets before the account was removed completely.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 24-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with alleged offensive comments made online.

"She was released on an undertaking and will appear at court at a later date.

"A full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."
