Heavy rainfall during Storm Babet last week resulted in a spectacular flow at Powerscourt Waterfall in County Wicklow on Thursday.

The Powerscourt Estate posted videos of the waterfall on social media on Friday morning, describing it as the "waterfall that keeps on giving".

"Powerscourt Waterfall is the waterfall that keeps on giving. A significant volume of rain has fallen over Wicklow today. This is the result. Likely to flow over in this manner all weekend," the Powerscourt Estate said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The waterfall, which is the second highest in Ireland, is located at the base of Glensoulan Valley on the River Dargle near Enniskerry in County Wicklow and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the county.

Storm Babet made landfall in Ireland early on Wednesday morning, causing particular damage in Cork.

Hundreds of homes in Midleton were flooded after the River Owenacurra burst its banks at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday, with the deluge smashing several shop windows in the town. Flooding reached 5 feet in depth on certain roads in the town.

The local hospital also had to be evacuated due to the flooding, while the Midleton Community Centre was used to accommodate people who had to evacuate their homes.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has stated that the Irish Government will provide financial support to people whose homes and businesses were damaged during the flooding.

"It’s very, very hard to know what to say. I visited a few places affected by floods in the past but this is particularly bad," Varadkar said after visiting some of the worst-affected areas of Midleton.

"Water levels rose very high, the water came very quickly, and of course, a lot of the water is dirty. So a lot of damage done here is to homes as well."
