The body of a man murdered by the Provisional IRA over 30 years ago was found Friday in Co Louth, according to the Independent.

Gerry Evans, from Co Armagh, was 24 years old when he went missing in 1979.

Evans became one of the Disappeared, a group of 15 people believed to be murdered by the Provisionals and whose remains had not been found.  Organized searches for them began in 1999. Seven bodies have now been located, but eight still are missing.

Evans was last seen hitching a lift on the N2 Dublin to Derry road from Castleblayney, Co Monaghan. The 16-month search for the body led to the discovery at Carrickrobin.

"The recovery is ongoing and the formal identification process will take some time,” said a statement from the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains.

The Provisionals have denied that they were involved in the disappearance of Evans.
