Mum and daughter killed in Cavan crash are named locally

Nell Raven, 53, died at the scene in Corclare, Shercock, on July 24, and her daughter, Ira Mereacre, was taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital.

Sadly, Ira, 10, who was a pupil of Milltown National School and had previously appeared on the Toy Show, passed away on Tuesday.

According to RTÉ, Nell was a journalist who had worked in London, Hong Kong and Pakistan and had recently become an Irish citizen.

Among those paying tribute to Nell and Ira was Drumlane Gaelic Football Club, who said their ‘thoughts and prayers’ were with the mother and daughter’s family.

‘At this profoundly difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends, and all who knew and cherished them. We stand in solidarity with you in your grief and extend our heartfelt support,’ a tribute read.

A GoFundMe has also been set up by the Milltown/Drumlane community for Nell and Ira’s family, with the aim of helping their loved ones through such a devastating time.

It read: ‘The community is shocked and devastated by their loss, but we can not begin to understand how Alex [Nell’s husband and Ira’s father] must feel.

‘We hope the donations received on this page will at the very least relieve some financial pressures on the family while they try to cope with this devastating loss.’
