New figures have revealed how much Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, paid for Strancally Castle in Co Waterford.
The Meta CEO and co-founder bought the castle in August, with the multi-billionaire seeking a location in the same country as his company’s international headquarters.
A new entry on the Residential Price Property Register has since revealed exactly how much Zuckerberg bought Strancally Castle for, with the figure surpassing €51million.
It stated that the sale was completed on August 17, with the Knockanore mansion commanding a sales price of €51,171,155.
This is a far higher price than what was initially rumoured in August, when there was a reported estimated sale price of between €20m and €30m.
After the sale was completed, a spokesperson for Zuckerberg said: ‘Mark and his family are excited to continue caring for this historic home and look forward to spending time in Ireland, where Meta maintains its international headquarters.’
When fully paid, the massive figure will easily become the record price paid for a single residential property here this year.
However, Forbes has estimated that Zuckerberg has a net worth of around $248.7billion (€222b), making the castle less than a tiny dent in his wealth.
It is understood that Zuckerberg and his family will use the property when carrying out Meta’s business in Ireland.
Built in 1830, the castle was last owned by Michael Allen Buckley, a co-founder of London-based private investment firm RAB Capital, and his wife, Giancarla.
After buying the property 25 years ago, the pair carried out extensive renovations.

Last week, it was revealed that Zuckerberg had donated €150,000 to the three Waterford GAA clubs that are closest to the castle.
Shamrocks GAA in Knockanore, Tallow GAA in Tallow, and Lismore GAA in Lismore will each receive €50,000, paid out over two years.
Facebook opened its international headquarters in Dublin in 2009, five years after Zuckerberg co-founded it.
Meta, which now also owns Instagram and WhatsApp, currently employs about 1,500 people in Ireland and has a market value of $1.85trillion.
