Sheffield Wednesday owner Milan Mandaric is set to fail with a cheeky bid for Roy Keane as his new manager after the sacking of Dave Jones.

Mandaric admitted his interest in Keane to The Sunday Times. He said, “If I am going to do anything with Roy I will have to call the federation (FAI) and see if I can get a chance to talk to him.

“You have to go through the channels for something like that. I will probably look into that. Roy took the job with Martin O’Neill so it would be difficult to move him out of there.

“I would like to look at him. He has a superb personality and won promotion with Sunderland. I am going to look at the situation.”

The FAI have dismissed the story, with sources close to Keane adamant he is committed to the Ireland job.
