What do you think? Could Irish American star Saoirse Ronan be headed for an Oscar with her role in the classic Louisa May Alcott story Little Women?

With the summer of 2019 sadly headed towards its end, Hollywood’s attention is already shifting to the fall movie season that will once again be filled with Oscar-ready releases.

One website has already published a list of Academy Award contenders, and who sits on top?  Yep, Saoirse Ronan, who stars in Little Women, an adaptation of the classic Louisa May Alcott Civil War-era novel.

Here's the trailer:

Goldderby.com says Saoirse, who plays Jo March, will inevitably be compared to others who have taken on the role. “You just know there will be think pieces aplenty comparing Ronan’s performance with those of Katharine Hepburn, June Allyson and Winona Ryder in the same role. But judging by the just-released trailer, she definitely displays her own unique brand of humor, smarts, and energy,” the site says.

Saoirse’s already got three Academy Award nominations under her belt, and she’s only 25. One of these years will definitely be golden for her.

Will it be 2020? Time will tell.  There was lots of talk last year saying she’d be chosen as Best Actress for Mary Queen of Scots, but that film faded without a trace.

Little Women reunites Saoirse with Greta Gerwig, the screenwriter, and director of Lady Bird.  Greta says Saoirse is a revelation in the film, especially when she’s onscreen with Timothee Chalamet, another Lady Bird vet.
