Fox News is claiming that U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power could have made it back from a personal trip in Ireland to New York in time for an emergency Security Council meeting held this past Wednesday.

The conservative news site suggests that Powers could have taken one of several dozens of flights from Ireland to New York that day, or even have charted a private place for a direct flight to Teterboro airport in New Jersey.

The news site also said that although the meeting was not publicly announced until noon on Wednesday, it was likely that Power and the Security Council knew about the alleged chemical gas attack that killed hundreds of people in Syria long before the meeting was announced.

Fox News goes on to say that U.S. officials "defended" the ambassador by saying she was in communication with her staff and the White House and that  she was represented by a capable diplomat at the meeting.

Power, who was born in Ireland, was believed to be on a private family trip when the Syrian crisis hit. She moved to the U.S. at age 9 but has retained close links there.
