Gardaí have renewed an appeal for information regarding the disappearance of a couple in County Cork in 1991.

Conor and Sheila Dwyer, who were both in their 60s, were last seen near their home in Chapel Hill, Fermoy, on April 30, 1991.

Sheila Dwyer's sister spoke to the couple over the phone the following day, but the couple has not been heard from since.

They were well known in the local area and drove a white 1978/79 Toyota Cressida with the registration 5797ZT. The car has also not been seen since the couple's disappearance.

The disappearance will feature on RTÉ's "Crimecall" on Monday night, with gardaí appealing for any information about the missing couple or their Toyota Cressida.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimecall on 1800 40 50 60 or Fermoy Garda Station on +353 025 8210.

Retired Chief Superintendent Kieran McGann, who worked the case in 1991, told RTÉ that the disappearance "remains a mystery" 33 years later.

He added that he hopes a fresh appeal for information will help bring some "closure" to the couple's family.

No trace of the couple has ever been discovered despite several Garda appeals and numerous reported sightings in Ireland, Germany, and France.

The alleged sighting in Germany took place in Munich, in 1993, and intrigued gardaí as Conor Dwyer had spent time working for German businessman Fritz Wolf, who owned a house near Fermoy. However, local police and Interpol investigated the sighting and dismissed it as a well-intentioned but mistaken report.

Joe Watkins, a retired Garda Sergeant who also investigated the case in 1991, described the disappearance as "baffling" in an interview with the Irish Independent last year.

"Everything was there. All of their property, their money, their passports, and all of their possessions," Watkins told the Independent
