Two great Hyannis Road Races this May
Set for Sunday, May 24, 2015, Memorial Day weekend, the Johnny Kelley Half Marathon and Barnstable Police Officer Michael Aselton 5km provide a terrific run for everyone. Yes, for everyone. There are 35 years of tradition here, and a culture of running, named after a legend in distance racing. Johnny Kelley's 61 Boston Marathons (58 completed) provides a record in road racing like no other. He sped to top 10 Boston finishes eighteen times, seven times runner-up and two victories.
Likewise, the Barnstable Police Officer Michael Aselton 5km provides any and all - runners of all abilities, and walkers - an opportunity to participate in a wonderful event in a beautifully scenic location. Ras na hEireann U.S.A. Donates $2,000 to High School
The 2015 Ras na hEireann U.S.A. 5Km held in Somerville, MA recently donated $2,000.00 to the Medford High School Track & Field Team.
The Medford High Track & Field Team has been involved in the event for 7 years now directing runners and walkers pre race and then passing out water and finisher medals at the finish line. The Medford High School Team is coordinated by Coach Tommy Lynch (far right), Tommy won many road races in his day including the 1993 Khoury's Summer Steamer also directed by the race director of the Ras na hEireann U.S.A. 5Km..
IAPOA Awards Dinner
On Saturday May 2nd, the Irish American Police Officers Association of Massachusetts (IAPOA) will hold its 16th Annual Awards Dinner at the Malden Irish American Club, 177 West Street, Malden, MA. The program and dinner will commence at 7:00 PM and cocktail hour will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. As is customary, there will be performances by the (IAPOA) Pipe and Drum Band and the Goulding School of Irish Dance step-dancers.
The mission for the dinner is to recognize the outstanding achievements and contributions of IAPOA members and local law enforcement officers during the previous year, and to honor those who died in the performance of their duties. This year we have a total of (34) recipients from the (14) law enforcement agencies listed below who will be honored at this year’s event.
IAPOA Medal of Honor honorees are presented posthumously to Officer Dennis O. (DJ) Simmonds Jr., Boston Police Department and Officer Gregg Maloney, Plymouth Police Department.
Additional honorees are drawn from Carlisle Police Department, Chelsea Police Department, Fall River Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Holyoke Police Department, Lawrence Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Department of Corrections, Newton Police Department, Somerville Police Department, US Drug Enforcement Administration and the Watertown Police Department
