Ashling’s life was tragically cut short in January 2022, when she was murdered by Jozef Puška while out for an evening run.

The schoolteacher was in her early 20s when she was killed and her death sparked shock and grief around the country.

Since then, the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund has raised thousands to sponsor local initiatives in Tullamore.

Four years on from her death, the fund has announced that an anniversary mass will take place on Sunday, January 11, at 9.30am in St.Brigid’s Church, Mountbolus.

Following this, on Monday, January 12, a commemorative walk will take place to Ashling’s Memorial Shrine on the Grand Canal, Tullamore.

Walkers will meet at Digby Bridge Carpark, Capincurr, at 3pm, though anyone walking along the canal from the Tullamore side may meet at the memorial shrine at 3.15pm.

It will be approximately a 25 to 30-minute walk, beginning at the Fiona Pender Monument and ending at Ashling’s Memorial.

Many mourners have continued to pay tribute to Ashling four years on from her passing and sent their well-wishes to the Fund following the announcement.

One Facebook user wrote: "As a mother of 4 beautiful girls i can never get over what happened to beautiful Aisling and what her poor family go through every single day."

Another shared: "Poor young woman. Just minding her own business and not bothering anyone. Very sad for her boyfriend, her friends and family and extended family members. May she rest in peace."

A third added: "You only went for run . May god let you rest in heavenly peace Ashling."

Yet another said: "What a beautiful young woman. Had her whole life ahead of her. Taken too soon."

The Memorial Fund has continued to support initiatives in Ashling’s honour after being established by the tight-knit Tullamore town of Blueball.

An array of sports clubs, musical societies and other groups have benefited from tens of thousands of funds raised by those whose lives Ashling touched.
