Actor Pierce Brosnan has paid tribute to his daughter Charlotte after she died of the same cancer which claimed his first wife Cassandra.

The 42-year-old died with her family at her side at the weekend after losing her battle with the killer disease.

The Bond actor left the set of his current movie 'November Man' in Eastern Europe to be with Charlotte.

In a brief statement, the Irish star said: “On June 28th my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean.

“Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl.

“We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences.”

The Irish Times
reports that Charlotte was the daughter of Brosnan’s first wife Cassandra, who also died from ovarian cancer in 1991, when she was 41.

The Navan-born actor adopted Charlotte and her brother Christopher in the 1980s after the death of their birth father Dermot Harris and both children took his surname.

Charlotte is the third generation of her family to die of cancer. She was married to the artist Alex Smith and has two children Isabella (15) and Lucas (8).

She is also survived by her step-brothers Sean, Dylan and Paris.
