Irish names are becoming more recognised and even popular in other countries, whether it’s down to TikTok, TV, people travelling or all three.

And it’s lovely to see, we Irish are so proud of our culture and language, so other countries appreciating and celebrating it (rather than making fun of how names are spelt and pronounced) is very welcome.

In fact, an Irish name has been the most popular choice for parents in America since 2017, and now it has been revealed that a lovely Irish boy’s name is also trending in the UK.

According to Netmums, an Irish name is becoming a favourite among UK parents, and we love it too. It doesn’t have massive popularity in Ireland yet, so now could be the perfect time to choose it before it gets too popular!

The gorgeous Irish name trending in the UK

The name is Lorcan, and while it is still rare in the UK, placing at 214th last year, it saw an increase of around 42 per cent from 2024 to 2025, which is a big jump for an Irish name.

Here in Ireland, it is somewhere in the middle, never in the top 20, but not ultra rare either. In 2025, the name Lorcan ranked at number 125 and was given to 43 babies in Ireland.

The name Lorcan can also be spelled with a fada, although this version is rarer, given to 18 Irish babies in 2025 and not used as often in the UK.

Meaning of the name Lorcan
