Sounds like Donald Trump would have preferred Patriots quarterback Tom Brady marry Ivanka instead of Jared Kushner.

What's the deal with Ivanka Trump and Tom Brady? Or with Donald Trump and Tom Brady?

According to a New York Times report released last weekend on the White House reign and strategy of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, Trump has repeatedly bemoaned having Jared Kushner as a son-in-law instead of Tom Brady.

Five people confirmed that they have heard Trump say he "could have had Tom Brady" but "Instead I got Jared Kushner."

Ouch!

But wait, did Tom Brady and Ivanka Trump ever even date?

Rumors flew last September during Anthony Scaramucci's 10-day stint as White House Communications Director when he suggested that Brady declined to go to the White House with the rest of the Patriots team after the Superbowl because he and Ivanka had previously dated and Brady's wife, Giselle Bündchen, wouldn't allow it.

"Somebody should ask Gisele why Tom Brady didn’t show up at the championship party,” Scaramucci said at the time in an appearance on TMZ Sports.

“My guess is, which is typical … there could be a little bit of jealousy there and protection and possession of Tom Brady, and she probably didn’t want him to go….

“Maybe there was a relationship between him and Ivanka at some point. Maybe it was someone else, I don’t know. I just think there was a possession that caused a rub.”

As far back as 2004, in an appearance on Howard Stern's radio show, Trump talked about how Brady allegedly wanted to date Ivanka and Trump himself thought it was a good match.

“Tom Brady, the quarterback, is somebody that really likes Ivanka and he’s a great guy and I got to know him at the Miss Universe contest,” Trump said in the January 7, 2004 interview, according to a portion of the transcript cited by Boston.com.

When Stern later asked if Brady was dating his daughter, Trump replied "Well, it could happen. I mean, he’d like to, and we’ll see,” adding that Brady was “focused now on the football stuff.”

However, according to Ivanka's mom Ivana, Ivanka had no interest in the football player.

In her 2017 book Raising Trump, Trump’s ex-wife wrote that her daughter “preferred to keep her personal life to herself.”

“At one point, Donald wanted her to date Tom Brady, the quarterback. He said, ‘You have to meet him!’ But Ivanka wasn’t into it.”

Well, there you have it! Still, it's interesting that all these years later Trump is still talking about Tom Brady.

The Irish American football star has been married to Brazilian model Bündchen since 2009 and the couple has two children. Ivanka Trump has also been married to her husband, White House advisor Jared Kushner, since 2009. They have three children.
