"SpongeBob an Scannán: Cá bhfuil SquarePants?" - the Irish language version of "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants" - will be available in select cinemas across Ireland this March to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge.
Macalla Teoranta, a leading Irish-language dubbing studio, has dubbed "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants" for the special cinematic release, which was announced on Thursday by Paramount Pictures Ireland in association with TG4/Cúla4.
“For more than 25 years, TG4 and Cúla4 have been the Irish home of 'SpongeBob SquarePants,' one of our most popular and best-loved programmes for young audiences," Karina Feirtéar, Cúla4 Channel Manager, said on Thursday.
"Many people in Ireland now associate SpongeBob with the Irish language, and 'An Scannán SpongeBob: Cá bhfuil SquarePants?' perfectly reflects Cúla4’s mission to bring fun, high-quality entertainment to young people through Irish."
Niamh McCaul, General Manager of Paramount Pictures in Ireland, added: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with TG4 and release 'The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants' in our national language.
"I hope Irish audiences will support this initiative in March when we celebrate all things Irish.”
Based on the highly acclaimed Nickelodeon TV series, "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants," from Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies, in association with Domain Entertainment and MRC, sees SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends set sail in their biggest, all-new, can’t miss cinematic event.
Desperate to be a big guy, SpongeBob sets out to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by following The Flying Dutchman – a mysterious swashbuckling ghost pirate – on a seafaring comedy-adventure that takes him to the deepest depths of the deep sea, where no Sponge has gone before.

The movie, which has already grossed over $140 million globally, stars Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence, George Lopez, Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Arturo Castro, and Sherry Cola, as well as Regina Hall and Mark Hamill.
Produced by Lisa Stewart, p.g.a., Pam Brady, and Aaron Dem, the film is based on the series “SpongeBob SquarePants,” which was created by Stephen Hillenburg. The story is by Marc Ceccarelli, Kaz and Pam Brady, with the screenplay by Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman. The film is directed by Derek Drymon.
"SpongeBob an Scannán: Cá bhfuil SquarePants?" will be released in participating cinemas in Ireland from March 1 to March 17.
