The 49-year-old is currently promoting his new movie, "A Big Bold Beautiful Journey", in which he stars alongside Margot Robbie.

The stars appeared on the "Today Show" earlier in the week, with Colin revealing how he had gotten his co-star onto the delicious delicacy of Tayto sandwiches.

"Tayto, cheese and onion, white bread — white cheap bread — thick butter," Colin explained to host Craig Melvin.

"I brought one in every morning for her," Colin said, "That was my job every night, was to make her a sandwich."

The actors and host were then treated to some on-air crisp sandwiches, with Colin taking the reins and ensuring the sandwiches were served properly — flattened so the crisps were squashed.

As if that wasn’t enough excitement, the team at Today even managed to use Tayto crisps in the sandwiches with Colin taking a bite before double-checking: "Is that Tayto?"

"It is, yeah," he said, turning to Margot: "I f***ing knew it!"

"Oh my God," Craig said, bursting out laughing while Margot and Colin’s faces both turned to shock.

@todayshow Colin Farrell made Margot Robbie a crisp sandwich (also called a chippy sandwich) every morning while the pair filmed their new movie "A Big, Bold, Beautiful Journey." Farrell's recipe? "Tayto (crisps), cheese, onion ... white cheap bread, butter." Robbie's reaction? "Heaven." #TODAYShow ♬ original sound - TODAY Show

"It was with a full mouth — they misheard me!" Colin exclaimed, trying to redeem himself.

Social media users took to the comments, finding the slip-up hilarious, with one person noting: "That sandwich made him think he was in a pub haha."

Another wrote: "He forgot where he was."

A third commented: "And this is why I love Colin Farrell."

Elsewhere in the promotional tour, the pair appeared on "The Late Late Show," where Colin regaled his story of almost getting into Boyzone before he was subsequently told he was "tone deaf".

He explained: "I sang 'Careless Whisper' twice at the audition; the second time was because they couldn’t believe how bad the first one was."
