A host of Irish stars, including Bono and golfer Padraig Harrington, jetted into Clare today for the wedding of Corr sister Andrea and her billionaire fiancé.
In Ireland’s biggest wedding of the year, Andrea Corr, 35, the frontwoman of Irish pop-folk band The Corrs, married stockbroker Brett Desmond, 32, in a 19th century stone church in Miltown Malbay.
The beaming bride, who wore a gorgeous cream-colored gown, waved to the hundreds of locals who gathered on the streets of the village to see the singer arrive at St. Joseph’s Church.
In attendance was U2’s Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, who happen to be celebrating their 20th anniversary on the same day. Irish golfer Padraig Harrington and Irish comedian Patrick Kielty as well as Desmond’s billionaire father, Dermot, and Corr’s older brother and fourth bandmate, Jim, were all in attendance to support the happy pair.
Corr’s sisters and fellow bandmates, Sharon and Caroline, served as her bridesmaids, and donned lilac dresses, while the groomsmen sported matching purple ties.
The wedding party then moved on to the nearby swanky Doonbeg Golf and Spa resort, which the couple rented out for the reception.
U2 are set to perform at the reception this evening along with a special number from the Corrs.
The Irish rockers flew in to Clare on their private jet between shows in England, where they are currently performing on their 360 Tour, to celebrate with their old friend, Andrea Corr.
An insider said “They were all absolutely lovely, no airs or graces, and she (Andrea) looks lovely.”
Desmond and Corr became engaged during a trip to Barbados last Christmas when the businessman slipped a $90,000 on the Irish singer’s finger.
Corr’s sisters are already married with children, and Andrew herself says she looks forward to starting a family.
“I want to have children, and I want to give them that same sense of security that my parents gave me. That's what I'm looking forward to,” she’s said.
