Maureen O’Hara’s last link to Ireland will be broken when her County Cork mansion and estate will be put up for auction shortly.

O’Hara’s home in picturesque Glengarriff, in West Cork, is being placed on the market for $3 million.

It is set on 35 acres, outside the town, and is known locally as Lugdine Park.

She bought it with her husband Charles Blair, in 1970, and used it as a holiday home until 2005 when she moved there permanently.

The house overlooks the bay with Cork and Kerry mountains in the distance.

Among the visitors there was New York mayor Ed Koch.

O’Hara told the Irish Times that she had wonderful and treasured memories of the spot.

“I have too many wonderful memories of Glengarriff to pick just one. One is starting my golf tournament that goes on every summer. All of us, the whole village, pulled together to get it going. And it still is today. You miss Ireland for all your life when you leave. I miss looking out my bedroom window at the boats coming in and eating at Casey’s.”

She said her husband, a co founder of Pan Am, loved the spot because he could land his seaplane there.

There were plans for a film school and an international visitor's center but they were shelved after O’Hara moved to Idaho to be with her grandson after a local dispute.

The actress, now 93, will be awarded an honorary Oscar by the film academy in 2015.

O’Hara, is best known for her performance opposite John Wayne in "The Quiet Man.”

In addition to the main house there is a cottage, a private bathing beach, and two islands included. The grounds of the estate are located close to the town and it has more than 30 “ladies” walks to choose from.

The house has previous history too, it was built in 1935 by the son of businessman William Martin Murphy who created the Irish Independent.
