Last year Kyle Catlett, the boyfriend of New Orleans Rose of Tralee Molly Molloy Gambel, proposed to her live on air as a nation looked on.

It happened at the annual Rose of Tralee festival where Molly was one of the roses competing. Her fellow southern Rose Haley O’Sullivan from Texas won.

It was the most popular moment in the over 50 year history of the event and gained 500,000 views on YouTube.

A documentary on the event called “The Proposal” will air in Ireland in September.

They got married in May in the Sacred Heart Church in Fairhope, AL on the shores of Mobile Bay.

“I knew since I was little that I wanted to get married in that church. My grandmother and all my family helped my plan,” she said.

Molly Molloy says it was nervousness which led to the 11 nos before the yes.

“It was overwhelming. I was being proposed to when I thought I was just coming on stage to do an interview,” she said.

“We had discussed it when we finished college, but I had no thought in my mind that this would happen.”

Her husband said he was only worried on their wedding day. “I was fine until I was standing on my altar. I got butterflies and I knew this was the moment I was waiting for since she said yes. I had a few tears going,” he recalled.

The couple made a video for this year’s one year anniversary of the proposal to show how things had gone in the one year since the dramatic event.
