Dublin and Cork have both been ranked among the 100 happiest cities in the world, according to the Institute for Quality of Life's 2025 Happy City Index.
Dublin landed in 24th place - right after Oslo and right before Milan - for the sixth annual ranking, while Cork was ranked 69th, right after Melbourne and right before Los Angeles.

The London-based Institute for Quality of Life think tank says it brings together nearly 200 volunteers from around the world to analyze cities, organizations, and communities to provide insights into the factors shaping well-being at various levels.
The Happy City Index relies on 82 indicators across 26 areas of activity grouped under the six themes of citizens, governance, environment, economy, health, and mobility to determine its rankings.
Ireland's capital city of Dublin is among the 31 cities that have a 'Gold Circle' distinction in the 2025 Happy City Index.
These Gold Cities, the think tank says, have indicators and figures that "allow meaningful comparisons with other places around the world, and the impact of their social policies is undeniably visible."
Dublin, which scored 862 points in the ranking, is described as "the beating heart of Ireland" in the 2025 Happy City Index.
"Dublin is a city of energy and opportunity—where rich history meets a forward-thinking approach to governance, mobility, and sustainability," the ranking says.
"With its vibrant economy, growing infrastructure, and dedication to innovation, Dublin continues to establish itself as one of Europe’s most dynamic and livable cities.
"As it evolves, Dublin remains a beacon of progress, culture, and resilience, offering an unparalleled urban experience for both residents and visitors."
