Are you on the hunt for a name that won’t be too commonly heard on the playground? Well, you’ve come to the right place, as this unusual pick appeared on Irish charts less than three times last year and certainly deserves its time in the spotlight!

In Netflix’s "Bodkin," Siobhán Cullen took on the role of Dubheasa Moloney, an investigative journalist, in the 2024 comedy thriller.

Shortening her name to Dove on the show, Dubheasa is a beautiful choice for prospective parents and comes with two great options, in its entirety or as its sweet nickname alternative.

Perfect for your little dove, Dubheasa, pronounced ‘duv-ess-ah’, comes with a beautiful meaning to boot, translating from Irish to dark beauty.

The unique Irish baby name has never reached the top 100 baby names in Ireland, or the top 800 for that matter, making it an incredibly rare moniker here.

In terms of its popularity over the years, Dubheasa has appeared on the charts three times since records began in 1964.

According to the CSO, a name needs to be used more than three times in any given year to make the cut on Irish records, an achievement Dubheasa has reached just three times.

In 2014, 2018, and 2021, three baby Dubheasas were born, with the name ranking in at 876th, 896th, and 883rd on the charts, respectively.

Falling out of favour amongst parents in Ireland after its brief window of popularity, Dubheasa has been used less than three times every year since 2021, the same going for last year with 2025 being the most recent naming data for Ireland.

What do you think of the Irish baby name Dubheasa? Would you choose this for your little girl?
