We’re always on the lookout for naming inspiration, and this beautiful Old Irish name certainly caught our attention.

For parents expecting a 2025 arrival and are searching for a unique name that won’t be too commonly heard on the playground, this might just be the moniker for you!

A gorgeous option for baby girls, Banbha is a name that some may be familiar with from Irish mythology.

Banbha, alongside her sisters Ériu and Fódla (which would also make for brilliant baby names!), is a matron Goddess of Ireland.

Part of the Tuatha Dé Danann and daughter of Delbáeth and Ernmas, Banbha is an alternative spelling of this mystical name, pronounced ban-vah.

Since CSO records began in 1964, Banbha has never appeared on Irish charts – until now!

In 2024, after being absent for decades, the beautiful name popped up, seemingly finding a new surge in favour amongst parents last year.

Still holding onto its acclaim as a very rare name in Ireland, just five baby girls were given this unique moniker, ranking it in 631st place.

What do you think of the name Banbha? Have you ever met anyone with this name?
