The US Embassy in Dublin is 50 years old today and has released a video to commemorate their time in Ireland.

The iconic building was designed by American architect John M. Johansen and Irish architect Michael Scott. They had to design a building that could fit in a triangular site in the Ballbridge area of South Dublin. The embassy opened on May 23rd 1964.

America was one of the first countries to recognise the Irish Free State and opened a consulate in Ireland in 1859 in a building near Adelaide Road.
