Celtic have the title champagne on ice after two Kris Commons goals helped Neil Lennon’s team to a 3-0 home win over Pat Fenlon’s Hibs on Saturday.

Motherwell’s 2-2 draw with St. Mirren means the Hoops party is on hold for at least one more game, but Commons and Mikael Lustig made sure of the Parkhead win.

Commons has now scored 16 goals for the season and intends to hit the 20 mark before the campaign is over.

After his brace against Hibs, he said, “Last season wasn’t anything to rave about was it? So it is nice to get back to scoring.

“Getting goals is a big part of my game as is creating goals and when you are not quite at the races and not scoring or creating you do take criticism so for me to score goals and create and play a part in winning a championship and hopefully a double, would be a bonus.”

Celtic are 15 points clear of Motherwell with five games remaining and will now focus on the Scottish Cup semifinal at Hampden against Dundee United this weekend.

Commons is looking forward to the championship coronation.  “Hopefully we can get the job done in a couple of weeks. We will try to get it wrapped up in the next game after a good performance against Hibs,” he said.

“It was a good game and I enjoyed it. Obviously it was nice for us to get plenty goals and a clean sheet was positive and we are in a good frame of mind going in to the weekend’s game.”

Manager Neil Lennon said, “We know we only need a point now to wrap it up and we will see what the fixtures bring.

“It would be nice to win it at home, we haven’t done that for a while, but we will see what the fixtures bring, it would be nice to have a full house and give the fans something to enjoy.”

Lennon was pleased with the Saturday display against Hibs. “What I was looking for was a performance and I got that, he said.

“We were dominant, the strikers were a lot better and Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper were the catalyst for a lot of good stuff so I am really pleased.”
