The opportunity of a lifetime may present itself to anyone who purchases a ticket to this year’s Irish Open.

Any ticket buy will be able to enter a competition that offers a chance to play alongside the new US Open champion Rory McIlroy, in the pro-am at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club over the August Bank Holiday weekend, July 28-31.

In addition to living any golf fanatic’s ultimate dream, the lucky winner will also receive free accommodations at a four-star hotel for two nights leading to the sports event.

“I’m really pleased to be able to offer someone a place in my pro-am team at Killarney - hopefully people will like the idea of taking me on. I might even give them a couple of shots,” said McIlroy who recently took home the trophy for the US Open.

McIlroy promises to follow in the footsteps of fellow Irish men Padraig Harrington and Shane Lowry as they both won the national Open in 2007 and 2009, respectively, and hopes to take this trophy home this year.

“The Irish Open is very high on the list of tournaments that I would like to win in my career one day,” added McIlroy, who arrived back in Belfast last night.

He claimed to have a special place in his heart for the national Open and hopes to win in front of a home crowd.

‘Rory fever’ spread through Ireland last year and crowds gathered to see the young star compete in person and this year will prove to be no different as Killarney prepares to give its great Irish players a warm homecoming welcome.

To enter the competition, visit the website www.europeantour.com/tickets. Entries close at midnight on Wednesday, July 20 and contestants must be 16 years of age and over and must have an official handicap. Pre-purchased tickets for the event start at $35 for adults, with season tickets priced at $70.
