Robbie Keane is on his way to Sunderland the British media are reporting.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce made the offer on Friday and Harry Redknapp, who has wanted to get rid of Keane almost since the striker rejoined the club from Liverpool, has accepted.

Spurs made it clear they had a striker too many after they bought Eidur Gudjohnsen on loan from Monaco.

He is a similar goal poacher player to Keane. Keane did not help his cause after a wild party trip to Dublin with his teammates which he organized recently without telling Harry Redknapp.

As team captain that was not considered a very smart thing to do.

He has also lost a yard or two of pace according to experts and the drop down to Sunderland is not unexpected.

Spurs are battling for a spot in Europe but Sunderland, while improved this season, may yet find themselves in a relegation zone.

Keane had also been linked to Celtic but it is understood he wanted to keep playing in the premiership.
