Captain Robbie Keane has now scored 56 goals in 125 internationals for Ireland, and his manager Giovanni Trapattoni is confident there is more to come from the LA Galaxy strike.

Keane grabbed two second half goals as a substitute in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Georgia as he matched Shay Given’s Irish appearance record.

“Robbie is not finished,” insisted Trapattoni. “There are strikers who have a particular nose for goal and Robbie is one of these. He shows us this for LA Galaxy as well.  He scores every week.

“He will be remembered as the greatest for Ireland. He continues with us and he will have the most caps for Ireland. I think Robbie was destined to do this. He started to play for the national team at 18 years of age.

“He was the best young creative player for Ireland and he played for the famous teams in Italy and England. Now, he continues to show us his qualities, his creativity.

“In America, he has gained fresh enthusiasm in a new situation and he looks very, very well.”
