J1 students at the IIIC |
We have seen lots of new faces around the IIIC office in the last few weeks and that can only mean one thing, that the summer has arrived and so too have the Irish students on J1 Summer Visas in Boston.
The J1 Summer work and travel program allows full time third level students to enter the U.S on a J1 exchange visitor program to work and travel anywhere in the U.S for up to four months.
The J1 summer program gives Irish college students a chance to experience the U.S culturally, whilst also providing them with valuable work experience for the summer. This summer there are over 3,000 Irish students traveling to the US with the most popular destinations being Boston, New York, Ocean City, San Francisco and San Diego. With many having difficulty finding jobs and housing, the IIIC is here to assist in helping the J1 summer students in their job and housing searches.
In the coming weeks we are holding two J1 summer orientations where we can assist you with any problems you may be having and we will be on hand to offer advice and support. The next dates of our orientations are: Tuesday June 11th from 2-4pm and Monday June 17th from 2-4pm.
We will also have a free Cyber Cafe in operation throughout the summer where you can use the computers or ask our staff or volunteers about jobs and housing needs. Our Cyber Cafe will be open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to Greenhills Irish Bakery in Dorchester for so kindly providing us with a delicious spread of muffins, scones and Irish brown bread for our first J1 summer orientation which took place earlier this week.
If you are an employer or landlord interested in reaching these students, please call us. Your jobs and/or housing will be listed free of charge. Please get in touch with Erika Bareiss at (617) 542-7654 ext.18 or email at [email protected]. Any help is greatly appreciated!
