The riot outside the Octagon after Conor McGregor’s defeat in Las Vegas was far more dangerous than what happened in the ring. It showed a sport utterly out of control.
It is clear that anytime McGregor shows up these says mayhem follows. His trash talking in order to drum up business has crossed the line in terms of personal insults. It has inflamed opponents. It is only a matter of time before someone gets killed.
It could have been McGregor or one of his corner men last night when three of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s henchmen attacked McGregor and the Russian launched himself at McGregor’s corner.
The violent scenes were sickening and had nothing to do with sport. People got their heads kicked in.
McGregor earned a reputed $50 million from the fight but UFC looked more like WWE than a real sport. Violence outside the octagon will scare away supporters quicker than anything inside the ring.
Sure, the Russian lightweight champion disagreed with and condemned McGregor’s behavior leading up to the fight, including the notorious bus attack in April that left several rival fighters injured.
He said: “First of all I want to say sorry to Nevada Athletic Commission and second to Vegas. I know this is not my best side. I’m a human being.
But I don’t understand how people can talk about how I jump on the cage. He talked about my religion, he talked about my country, he talked about my father.

“He came to Brooklyn and he broke a bus, he almost killed a couple of people. What about this s***? Why do people talk about me jumping over the cage? I don’t understand.”

Methinks he understands perfectly. McGregor incited him, he, in turn, incited a riot and people almost got killed and many were injured in the brawl.
That’s not sport -- that’s criminal behavior before the world.
McGregor should retire -- the act has gotten very old. Now it’s downright dangerous.
