In a major study of international student life, University College Cork (UCC) has once again excelled.

According to the International Student Barometer (ISB), a survey conducted by I-Graduate of 209,000 international students from 238 universities in 16 countries, UCC’s International Education Office was ranked first in Ireland and third in the world, achieving an impressive 94% satisfaction rating from international students.

A wide-ranging survey, the International Student Barometer also reveals that UCC performed exceptionally well with its international students across several key areas of university life including teaching and learning, student support and social life.

According to the ISB, postgraduate respondents ranked UCC first and third globally for confidence in managing a research project and guidance in topic selection. UCC also achieved high marks from international students for the provision of resources. Its library (physical and online), laboratories, language support and the expertise of its lecturers all fell within the top ten percent while access to technology fell within the top fifteen percent of universities globally.

Moreover, the ISB also highlighted the excellent level of student support provided by UCC. The International Education Office and Careers Services were both ranked third in the world and first in Ireland, as were UCC’s sports facilities, faith provision and graduate studies. Student respondents were also very satisfied with UCC’s IT Services, the accommodation office, student union, clubs and societies and faith provision, all of which ranked in the top ten of universities worldwide.

Unsurprisingly, given its green credentials and architectural heritage, UCC did exceptionally well in terms of its campus environment, ranking first in Ireland and second in terms of eco-friendliness. UCC also came out extremely well in respect to safety, with international students voting UCC the safest campus in Ireland.

UCC’s success in the latest ISB survey follows recent success in the QS world rankings (Ireland’s first 5 Star University) and as Sunday Times University of the Year (2011/12). These results further cement UCC’s position not only as one of Ireland’s premier universities, but as a leading destination for international students. As the Lonely Planet states: ‘everything good about Ireland can be found in Cork…’
