Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder in Northern Ireland after a body was discovered in Lurgan, Co Armagh, early on Sunday morning, December 3.

Two women, aged 35 and 43, and a 31-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The PSNI said they were investigating a sudden death in the Edward Street area of Lurgan on Sunday morning.

Officers sealed off an area on the edge of a housing estate near Edward Street and Francis Street as part of the investigation on Sunday morning.

RTÉ reports that officers were examining a car in the area on Sunday morning, while the BBC reports that at least 16 police vehicles attended the scene.

The PSNI has yet to identify the deceased and is appealing for witnesses who were in the Edward Street or Francis Street areas between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Sunday. Anyone with dashcam footage is also urged to come forward.

Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd described the incident as a "shocking scene on a Sunday morning".

"A family somewhere is going to get really bad news today and our thoughts and prayers are with those," O'Dowd said, encouraging any witnesses to come forward.

Alliance MLA Eóin Tennyson described the incident as "shocking and appalling" and said the Lurgan community is "reeling".

"The community is reeling at the loss of yet another life to the scourge of violence," Tennyson said.

Carla Lockhart, a DUP MP for the Upper Bann constituency, said police in Lurgan were dealing with a "very serious incident".

"Police are dealing with a very serious incident in the Edward Street area of Lurgan in which there has been a sudden death," Lockhart said on Sunday.

"Please avoid speculation and allow for Police to carry out their investigations."
