Gardaí arrested a woman today, Tuesday, July 15, in relation to the 2009 murder of 26-year-old Steven O'Meara in Co Wicklow.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of murder and is currently detained pursuant to Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007, at a Garda Station in Co Wexford.

A Senior Investigating Officer in Wexford Garda Station is leading the investigation into O'Meara's murder.

Two other men have been convicted for offences relating to this murder, Gardaí noted on Tuesday.

Last summer, O'Meara's murder was featured in an episode of RTÉ's Crimecall.

On August 6, 2009, at approximately 6 pm, O'Meara left his home at Rose Hill, Wicklow Town, and walked down through different walkways along the back of the town to Marlton Road, where he was collected by a silver Nissan Pulsar car and driven through Redcross to Ballydonnell Wood.

Gardaí believe there was a group of male suspects present at the woods. O'Meara was then fatally injured, shot, and buried in a shallow grave at the woods.

On August 9, 2009, O'Meara was reported missing to Gardaí by his partner. His body wasn't discovered until December 24, 2009.

Gardaí began a missing person investigation, later upgraded to murder, culminating in two individuals being convicted for offences relating to the murder.

Wicklow People previously reported that in 2012, Michael Dickenson of Darragh Park, Wicklow town, was jailed for life after being convicted of O'Meara's murder. In 2013, Clement Byrne of Clonattin Village, Gorey, Co Wexford, was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment for his role in O'Meara's death.

The silver Nissan Pulsar with a front right wing painted green, registration number 95-D-49899, was seized by Gardaí.

Last year, Gardaí said the continuing investigation was focusing on the remainder of the suspects believed to be involved in O'Meara's death.

While Gardaí acknowledged that two individuals had been convicted of offences relating to the murder of O’Meara, it is their belief that others were involved.

For the Crimecall episode, Gardaí appealed to anyone with information about the silver Nissan Pulsar, as well as anyone who may have met or spoken with O'Meara in the days leading up to his murder.

Crimecall interviewed Steven’s parents, John and Veronica, who also appealed for the public to assist with the Garda investigation into their son's death and to help them find closure.
