"Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick are expecting twin girls this summer though a surrogate mother.

The couple, who are regular visitors to County Donegal with their 6-year-old son James, are "overjoyed," said their publicists.

Broderick - whose father is Irish American - spent his summers in Donegal as a child and the family now owns a home near Kilcar.

The couple, who have refused to name the woman carrying the twins, turned to a surrogate after several unsuccessful tries. "They came to the conclusion that this was going to be the best alternative for expanding their family," a friend said.

"They are over the moon, as any prospective parents would be. Their life is about to get a lot busier."

Ironically, Jessica Parker's character is expected to be pregnant in the next instalment of the "Sex and the City" movie franchise.

The film, which is set to be have some scenes filmed in Ireland, will show Carrie and new husband Big moving to London and swapping Brookyln Bridge for London Bridge, Barneys for Selfridges and Central Park for Hyde Park.

Early plot snippets say Big is set to lose his vast fortune and the high-rolling lifestyle that went along with it while Carrie announces that she's pregnant with the couple's first child.
