New York Republican Congressman Peter King has announced that he will be facing off with ‘Irish’ Josh Foley in a sparring match at an Irish pub a week before St. Patrick’s Day on Long Island.

The Associated Press reports that Congressman King will step into the ring for a two-round exhibition match - not for charity - against a New York state kickboxing champion, "Irish" Josh Foley, at Mulcahy’s pub in Wantagh, N.Y on Saturday.

King said of the upcoming showdown, "Some people have been comparing my bout with Foley to Tiger Woods playing golf with President Obama.”

Congressman King told Geraldo Rivera that his trainer, Chris Cardona, asked him to box in the exhibition. He said there’s about 12 fights scheduled for that night in Mulcahy’s in Wantagh, NY.

"If Foley goes all out, it will be a very quick fight,” added King, who posted a picture of a training session between the two on his Facebook page.

The 68-year-old Congressman, who weighs in at 230 pounds, has been in training for about nine years.

This isn’t King’s first time in the ring for an exhibition match. The Congressman said that back in 1991, he sparred with former pro Seamus McDonagh in an exhibition bout on the 20th anniversary of the first Joe Frazier-Muhammad Ali fight.

"We'll be sparring," King said of Saturday’s match. "If anyone is going to get knocked out, it will be me. I can tell you that much."

"I've been a big boxing fan for a long time," he said.

While King expects about 1,000 people for his bout, his wife, Rosemary, won't be in the crowd.

"It's her birthday and she hates boxing," he said. "She's already told the police not to bother to come and get her if anything happens to me."
