Police continue to search for the Long Island serial killer in Oak Beach, and for Shannan Gilbert, the New Jersey escort, last seen in the area in May 2010. Although no remains have been found in the last two days of searching, they believe that some “items” found in the marshes could be connected to her disappearance.
A source close to the investigation told the local newspaper Newsday that these items could not be accessed during previous searches as they would have been immersed in water at the marsh near Ocean Parkway
The Chief of Detectives Dominick Varrone would not give details of the findings. He would only say that “no human remains were found."
NBC news is reporting that the police discovered remains, thought to be Gilbert’s, in knee-deep water in the area.

On Tuesday, the police were seen returning to the area’s gated community, where Gilbert was last seen. The 24-year-old New Jersey escort was meeting with a client who she had made contact with on Craigslist.
On Monday, police searched the area along Ocean Parkway but found no evidence. Currently there are no further searches planned.
Since December 1st, 2010, ten bodies have been found in the area. Five of these victims worked in the sex industry and four of them, who were all buried in the same fashion in close proximity to each other, had gone missing while meeting clients who they made contact with through Craigslist.
Last week, County Laois-born Suffolk Police Commissioner, Richard Dormer told Newsday that he does not believe Gilbert was murdered by the same killer.
