Aine, who was in her 30s, was making her way to an after-hours GP service in Shannondoc in Limerick City when the accident occurred.

Just a few yards from her parents' home, Aine was involved in a three-car crash in which a male driver of another car fled the scene. Gardaí [Irish police] have revealed they were following a "definite line of inquiry."

It is believed that Aine died on impact on the N24, while another driver, in the third car, was treated at University Hospital Limerick.

Those who knew the nurse left their thoughts and prayers online, remembering Aine as "A kind, warm person who lifted those around her."

She had a true passion for football, with her former coach highlighting how she was a "dedicated carer" who "always had a quiet smile for you."

Dedicated to helping others, one person recalled how she was a helper with the Youth Section of the 2010 Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. While a fellow nurse wrote "Thank you for your dedication to caring for others. As a nurse myself, your passing has touched my heart in a very unexpected way, and reminds us to make the most of everyday."

Her dad Eugene, a retired garda and mum Anne, a retired teacher, along with her brothers Eoin, James and Conor, are heartbroken by her sudden death.

Her funeral is due to take place on Wednesday, February 18, at St John the Baptist Church, followed by her burial in St Columba's cemetery, Pallasgreen.
