Ireland's first weather and long range forecast website has attracted interest from across the world.

Irish Weather Online (IWO) is an independent project run by Co. Clare man Mark Dunphy, who describes it as a website run by weather enthusiasts for weather enthusiasts.

According to Mr Dunphy: “Every conversation in Ireland begins with a comment on the day’s weather. Consequently, we saw there was considerable scope for  developing an all inclusive portal for weather related information and by doing so tap into the huge interest among Irish people in the weather.”

The new website contains the latest news relating to the weather and climate in Ireland including weather related video and images.

The site has already been profiled on The Weather Channel here in the U.S. and has received more than 12,000 visitors via the American weather channel since going live last week.

Mr Dunphy said: "Each day our weather expert Peter O’Donnell takes an in-depth look at the coming week’s weather, providing Ireland’s most comprehensive daily long range weather outlook. Peter is a climatologist living in Canada specialising in long range weather forecasts for Ireland and Britain."

The Irish website also features real-time weather conditions in 50 locations throughout Ireland as well as cities all over the world and a timeline of Ireland's extreme weather over the decades.

It also hosts a live chat profile where visitors can engage with other weather enthusiasts about current conditions.
